Design Your Own Scented Candle

Design Your Own Scented Candle is a calm, hands-on workshop where your team blends fragrance, pours soy wax and leaves with a candle they have made themselves. It is creative without being fiddly, social without forcing anyone to perform, and scented in the best possible way.

People start by exploring fragrance notes, from floral and citrus to woody and aromatic, then choose their own blend before the wax is poured. The pace gives everyone time to think, compare ideas and swap opinions without the room turning into a shouting match. Quiet team members can focus on their own choices. The chatty ones can debate which scent smells like a good hotel lobby.

By the end, each person has a finished candle that feels personal, useful and worth taking home. It works neatly for team building, reward days, birthdays, hen parties, corporate gifting moments and creative company gatherings. We bring the equipment and guide the process, so your team can simply turn up and make something lovely.

WE KNOW THIS EVENT IS GREAT FOR

Team Building, Creative, Relaxed, Wellness Objectives

Event Summary.

This workshop is all about making a soy scented candle from the first fragrance idea to the final poured piece. Your team does not need craft experience, a steady hand, or a secret side business on Etsy. They are guided through each stage, with the tools and materials ready to go. The result is a room full of people making small decisions with their hands, their noses and their own taste. It is gentle, focused and surprisingly good at getting people talking.

The session begins with scent. Participants explore different fragrance families and start to notice what they are drawn to. Floral notes feel soft and familiar. Citrus can feel bright and clean. Woody and aromatic notes bring a deeper, more grounded feel. People compare favourites, pull faces at the ones that are not for them, and slowly build a blend that feels like theirs rather than something chosen from a shelf.

Once the fragrance choice is made, the making begins. Soy wax is prepared and poured with guidance from the workshop host, so the process stays tidy and manageable. Everyone has a clear job to do, but nobody is left guessing what comes next. There is enough structure to keep the room moving, and enough freedom for each candle to feel individual. No two finished candles need to smell the same, which is half the point.

It suits teams because it gives people a shared task without turning the day into a contest. The competitive ones can still compare scent combinations, naturally. The quieter ones can get absorbed in the details without being dragged into the spotlight. The sceptics usually come round when they realise there is proper choice involved and a finished candle at the end. It is creative, but not chaotic. Relaxed, but not passive.

For companies, this works well as a reward activity, a lighter team building session, or a creative opening to a wider away day or corporate gathering. It also has a natural fit for gifting occasions, because the item people make has a life after the event. It is not a throwaway desk trinket. It can go home, be lit later and remind someone of the day in a quiet, pleasing way. That makes it useful for groups who want an activity with a tangible finish.

The sensory part is what gives the workshop its character. People are not just following instructions. They are making choices based on memory, preference and instinct. One person may want something fresh and clean. Another may head straight for richer notes. Someone else will try to recreate a favourite place, season or feeling, then discover that scent is harder to describe than they thought. That is where the conversation starts.

NewWave Events provides the equipment and runs the workshop on the day. We set out the materials, explain the process and keep the group moving from fragrance blending to pouring. Your team does not need to bring anything special or prepare in advance. They just arrive ready to take part. We handle the practical bits, keep an eye on the room and make sure everyone has the support they need to create their own candle.

The format is easy to place within a bigger event because it gives people a breather while still feeling purposeful. It can sit nicely within a team away day, a company celebration, a creative social, a hen party or a birthday gathering. It gives people a reason to gather around a table, talk naturally and make something with care. There is no stage, no big reveal and no pressure to be brilliant. Just fragrance, wax, a bit of concentration and a finished candle that smells exactly like a choice they made.

What event leads tell us

Proof from teams who've actually run one.

We have used NewWave Events a couple of times at Kohler. Though we had different event hosts each time both crews were superb, steering the atmosphere and activities with expertise that sets them apart. The activities and equipment were well designed and really helped us improve communications and relationships within our team whilst having fun. Thank you!

FAQ

Practical questions, practical answers.

Can't see your question?

The easiest way to start is a quick call, usually about eight minutes. You don’t need to have it all figured out. Just tell us roughly what you’re planning and we’ll talk you through what’s worth knowing. If we’re a good fit, brilliant. If not, you’ll still come away knowing more than you did.
